Why Register My Will?
A
Will is the only legal document by which a person can state how
they want their estate and worldly possessions dealt with after
their death. Yet despite the importance of such a document, too
frequently no will can be found. This can often create great distress
and arguments for loved ones who are left behind to deal with
the problems.
You're Bank may already be holding the Will for you but this
could become costly and inconvenient especially if you move out
of the area.
You could store your will at home but you risk it being lost
or maliciously or accidentally destroyed or it not remaining confidential.
Many solicitors & will writers are not automatically aware
of the deaths of their clients, go out of business, change name
or location therefore making it almost impossible for your loved
ones to locate your will and therefore thousands of Wills remain
unclaimed in archives. Those who know the whereabouts of your
Will may have moved away, lost touch, become mentally impaired
or died.
Individuals do forget and become confused, particularly at distressing
times.
Your next of kin may not know, or recall, who holds the Will
or whether a Will even exists. Sometimes it is presumed that a
Will doesn't exist, when in fact, it does. Out-of-date Wills are
acted upon when they are mistakenly believed to be the latest
version. Many couples write Wills believing that the remaining
partner will reveal the Will. Sadly, couples do occasionally die
together.
